Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

People today know that botox injection procedures are fast and easy, and make the skin look more youthful. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. But the question on many people's mind is 'why is it so popular?' or 'what makes it such a sought after procedure?'

There is a very basic reason for this. People realize that botox is low-cost, and works well to make the skin look younger. Unlike plastic surgery, there are no scars after the procedure, it's low-cost, and it takes only a few minutes to have done. More and more people have realized this now, thanks to all the publicity botox treatments receive through celebrity use.

Botox for men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The truth is to the contrary. Granted that majority of the people who undergo botox injections are women, these days' even men are undergoing these procedures. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. Some clinics now report that up to 50% of their patients undergoing botox are male!

Changing trends

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. Other statistics say that it's 10% that it has been going up, year by year. This rising trend should come as no surprise. The previously attached 'stigma' and social attitude to botox injections being the treatment reserved for the wealthy no longer exists, and neither does any sense of any shame of undergoing the procedure. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

There is more than this though. Many other non-cosmetic disorders can be treated by botox injections, including muscle spasticity disorders and other chronic conditions. Spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy for adults and children, and blepharospasm are included in the other treatments that botox can be helpful for. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Migraines have been known to be reduced using scalp injections of botox, as well as excessive sweating and other issues.

It's plain to see that botox is only gaining in popularity. Research is ongoing into looking at newer applications, and the results so far are promising.
