Cardiovascular exercise is more effective for weight loss than weight lifting. You should do some light weight lifting for tone but cardio is what will help you lose weight. To lose weight, elevating your heart rate and respiration are more helpful than building muscle mass.

Eat your largest meal earlier in the day. For example, if you only eat soup, a sandwich or a salad for lunch, try eating your dinner for lunch and a sandwich for dinner. Since you burn a lot more calories during daytime as opposed to nighttime, it is better to eat more at daytime and to eat less during the nighttime.

Fad diets may seem good in jump starting a weight loss program. If you really want to lose weight, you should avoid these plans. Fad diets often encourage you to survive on a single food or food group, for example, cottage cheese or vegetables. While the idea may seem novel at first, it will rapidly grow tedious. Even worse, they do not support healthy eating habits. Finding any kind of diet that gradually educates you is a better path to choose.

In order for your diet to be a success, reward yourself when you exhibit good behavior. Get a massage, take the night off to rent a movie, or go shopping. If you've lost enough weight to drop a clothing size or two, reward yourself by buying new clothes that highlight your weight loss. This will give you motivation to go even further.

When you meet a goal that you have set for yourself, indulge in a reward. Purchase something that you have had your eye on or do an activity that you like. This helps to increase your level of motivation while working out.

Walnuts are a handy snack when you're trying to lose weight. Studies have shown that adding walnuts to a breakfast helped participants stay full for longer than people who ate the breakfast without walnuts. They're also an excellent snack food.

Try putting a mini portion of food on a plate that it smaller, it will give you the illusion that you are eating the same amount and not starving.

If you miss meals, your body will react by storing previously consumed calories as fat, instead of burning these calories for energy. If you can find no way to avoid skipping a meal, try to at least snack on something healthy. Some nuts or a fresh piece of fruit will keep your metabolism active.

You can eat less by eating on a smaller plate. We automatically consider the plate we receive to be one serving, no matter what its actual size is. Filling a smaller plate, gives the illusion that you are consuming more food, while in reality you are really eating less.

If you choose to eat a sandwich, do not put too many condiments on it. Condiments are often the culprit when it comes to hidden calories. Use sugary condiments sparingly if you cannot go without them.
