Stop Looking your Age with Botox

By Craig Nevilt

Botox, under prescription, can be used to smooth away the frown lines between the eyebrows, and other facial wrinkles, that men and women get in middle age. It is most often used in order to smooth out lines. When people feel the lines on their forehead make them look tired or even angry, they choose this type of cosmetic improvement.

You should not consider this treatment if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients of Botox. You shouldn't go ahead if there is an infection in the skin surrounding the area being injected - as common sense dictates. Before a treatment, tell your physician if you have any issues such as asthma that affect your breathing.

How does it work?

The skin's wrinkles normally form right next to a muscle that is close to, and normally beneath, it.The Botox restricts nerve impulses from reaching the tissue that causes the wrinkle. The skin supported by the muscle stops being creased by constant expression contractions by this limited or no muscle movement. Lines and wrinkles stop forming when muscle contractions are inhibited. As a result, frown lines and other wrinkles are reduced, giving the person a more youthful look.

Using Botox injections for wrinkles is non invasive and the procedure is usually carried out in approximately 20-30 minutes. A small amount of Botox is injected by the practitioner into the site to be treated. As it starts working, the Botox blocks the nerve signals to the muscles under the skin. The skin is smoothed, causing facial lines to diminish, because the muscle therefore relaxes.

The skin might be a bit red and sore after the Botox Injection Treatment, but this is normally minor and goes away after a few days. Usually on the same day, a patient can leave the clinic straight away and return to work. The treatment usually starts to work within 3 days, but it may take up to a week to maximize the full effect.

Post-Treatment

The first thing you need to do following your procedure is to try to exercise your treated muscles for one to two hours. You should practice squinting, frowning and raising your eyebrows. This will work the Botox into your muscles. While this can help, it won't impact your results negatively if you forget or don't have the time to do it.

Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas and, for 4 hours after the treatment, do not do yoga, heavy lifting or any type of strenuous exercise. Also, don't take Advil, vitamin D, or Tylenol after the procedure.

If you see some tiny bumps or marks on your face after the procedure, do not be concerned. Within a few hours they will go away.

If you choose to have a Botox treatment, be sure your practitioner is specifically trained in this procedure. This type of treatment is a medical procedure, and should be seen in this way.
