Age Spots are not Beauty Marks

By Elen Hanszen

We all want smooth, unblemished skin and this feeling increases as we grow old and start seeing signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. When we start to notice these imperfections, for a lot of us, it begins to affect our self esteem and confidence. If you too are worried about your skin condition and are looking for a reliable way to restore your skin then a skin peel could be your solution.

A remedy that has a significant effect in order to revive a more youthful skin appearance is a chemical skin peel. Your face will have less obvious signs of age on it, such as fine lines and wrinkles. The outermost part of your skin sometimes has an accumulation of dead skin cells, and a skin peel will remove these, reducing wrinkles and making it appear brighter.

A skin peel will also help to reduce some other types of skin issues like liver or age spots and can reduce the prominence of freckles also. Your skin will become smooth and supple with the use of chemical peels giving you a younger look. Chemical peels also have a very positive effect on people suffering from acne; fewer pimples is the expected result, and less inflammation.

Chemical peels are a one day process, with options for touch ups, but a product for skin like a cream or lotion will have to be used for a long period of time, with multiple daily usage required. These are not seriously invasive surgical procedures, like other options in the plastic surgery choices available. A typical skin collagen enhancing cream that can be purchased will usually have only a slight effect, but a chemical peels can have a dramatic effect that is long lasting.

Calling it a "peel" says it all; the outermost layers of facial skin are peeled away, promoting new skin growth, and showing the fresher, newer looking skin on top. Because the re-grown skin is new it has a fresh, bright, tight appearance and fewer blemishes or wrinkles.

A superficial chemical peel is not painful and therefore no pain relief is needed before, during or after the procedure. For many, six superficial chemical peels are optimal, every week or 2, until the desired effect is achieved. Risks are decreased with repeated more superficial peels. For a few days after a skin peel, the side effects are still noticeable. In certain cases, skin can take on a slightly different colour after the process, and hyperpigmentation has been reported as well. Pigmenting capability of the skin can be reduced when deep skin peels are chosen, at times.

In the week prior to a skin peel of any depth it's usually recommended that patients clean the skin regularly to reduce chance of infection and the use of moisturizer is recommended to promote even results and fast healing. Often a doctor will recommended applying sunscreen daily prior to the procedure.
