By Shana Gretzler

Losing weight requires hard work and dedication. Green tea is a great idea when losing weight. Green tea can increase metabolism and also gives energy. A cup of green tea first thing in the morning before a workout can boost your energy.

Eating an apple before every meal will help you lose weight faster. Not only is it a healthy way to get lots of fiber and extra water in to your diet, but it will also fill you up before you begin eating the main portion of your meal. You will eat less of the higher fat and calorie filled foods and therefore consume less calories overall. As we all know, less calories means less pounds.

A good tip to help you lose weight is to aim for a pound of total weight loss each week. If you lose more than that, it may not be good for you. Losing weight quickly is not only unhealthy, you will probably end up putting the pounds straight back on.

Mayonnaise is very versatile. You can practically put it on everything! Sandwiches, dips, salad dressings, ham salad, egg salad, potato salad just to name a few. But it's so fattening and full of calories! Isn't there something that is just as versatile and not so bad for you? Well actually, there is: yogurt.

A good way to help you lose weight is to incorporate a cheat meal into your diet every few days. A cheat meal can consist of whatever you want. It can be a few slices of pizza. One cheat meal every few days can keep you motivated.

Being part of a support group can keep you from feeling alone when losing weight. If you have friends or family who are working on weight loss at the same time, talk to them about it for motivation. You can also join an online support group. You can trade stories, gain inspiration, give others inspiration, and learn new things by hearing the successes and failures of others.

To keep your weight loss routine healthy and effective, avoid extreme or "crash" dieting. The ideal diet for healthy weight loss is a sustainable one. By their very natures, crash diets are short-term ordeals. Even though they may offer substantial short-term results, their long-term effect is negligible, or even harmful. It is better to develop a diet you can stick to over time - even permanently.

Use cinnamon instead of sugar. Fruits can get a little boring after a while. Before you give in and go after a more sugary dessert, give cinnamon a try. Put a little cinnamon on your fruit before eating it. It changes things up a bit and is a delicious alternative to sugar.

Say you're a condiment lover. You love to slather mayonnaise on your sandwiches. One of many small changes that can save you hundreds of calories over time is to simply use mustard instead of mayo on your next sandwich. Depending on how much mayo you used to use, you could save up to 100 calories from that simple swap.

As you can see, weight loss doesn't need to be a drastic, grueling, and miserable process. With small, measured steps and lifestyle changes, you can make serious progress gradually. Building a knowledge of your body and healthy ways to combat excess pounds is your first step to making a better life!
