Have You Been Unintentionally Damaging Your Diet?

By Curtis Mills

We all know that one of the best foods for our diet plans are lean meats, whole grains and healthy fats. These would be the foods that give us protein and energy. They keep our bodies balanced nutritionally but don't stuff us full of empty calories which will later need to be burned off at the gym. Did you know, though, that some of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly fine by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They can also be making you gain extra fat! Here are some of the foods that you might be having which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

Sports Drinks tend not to actually help you. You've probably been told that if you wish to help your body renew itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Most doctors will tell you, though, that if your training does not go over ninety minutes then you should be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks could completely undermine your diet plan because they are filled to the brim with sugar, empty calories and artificial colors and flavors. Choose chocolate milk for your drink as an alternative. The sugar inside the chocolate can help your muscles start to heal and the calcium in milk keeps your bones strong.

Skip the protein shakes. Lots of individuals are convinced drinking a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. What you will be actually doing, specifically if the majority of your diet consists of whole and healthy foods, is helping your body overdose on protein. No matter what others think, protein is not stored in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. This implies that should you have taken in an excessive amount of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat seriously isn't really healthful at all. You may possibly believe that a sandwich made of whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat is loaded full of preservatives along with about a third of your suggested daily sodium intake. This is going to be specifically unsafe if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of selecting deli meat, choose home prepared chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you are going to spend more money for these selections but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are lots of things that we believe are healthier than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask a medical expert which items are the best to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are very careful about what you eat and are good to your system, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
