By Kerri Stout

Going through an invasive procedure can be a bit tough. You need to prepare yourself before that procedure so that you can be in your ideal and stable condition during the operation. You even have to prepare for what would happen after that. After care is a very common concern for those going through an invasive procedures, especially if it is a gastric bypass surgery in Mexico.

When it comes to the after care tips, the first thing you have to be aware of is the vitamins your body needs. Since you are not allowed to eat as much as you can, then you have to supplement vitamins to ensure that you get the proper nutrition your body needs. There are multivitamins you need to take so that you stay healthy despite the limited food you can eat.

You should then remember to drink water daily to keep the body hydrated. You need to drink at least one and a half to two liters of water daily. Even though that is quite difficult after the procedure because of your reduced stomach size, you have to force yourself to drink water if you do not want to suffer complications.

Avoid those food that has high sugar and fat content. You have to stay away from them because they technically have high calorie content. As a post op procedure, you are not allowed to consume a high number of calories. This is so that you can avoid symptoms that will make you suffer such as vomiting and abdominal cramps.

Drinking water or any other fluid should not be in large amounts, especially before a meal. During meal time, it is essential that the stomach gets filled with foods that are rich in nutrients, not by liquids. You need to avoid drinking anything for about forty minutes before meal time and twenty to thirty minutes afterward.

Alcoholic drinks or carbonated drinks are a no-no when it comes to the after care. After all, these are just full of empty calories. If you persist on drinking alcoholic or carbonated drinks, you will just be upsetting your new stomach as well as your small intestines. To get more explanation about this, ask your post op doctor.

Do not be afraid to do some light exercises. As soon as you can get up and walk, you should do so. You have to avoid having your muscles stiffen up. Of course, the exercise should not be rigorous. You can start by walking around the yard or the neighborhood. You can build your regimen there.

Remember to listen to your body. When you are hungry, eat. When you are full, stop eating. Do not be too greedy for food, especially since you just had a procedure that involves the stomach. After the operation, you have to avoid anything that can put a stress on your stomach. Ask your doctor on this.

Be prepared for all of these changes. Even though they are just small changes, they can still do a lot to you. Of course, the said operation will not change your whole life. It just means that it is a step that you can use to build up a proper diet for yourself.
